Infection Prevention & Control Manuals

HICMR offer a range of specialty-specific evidence-based Infection Prevention & Control Policy Manuals, developed to incorporate all relevant current state, national and international standards and guidelines, including the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare (ACSQHC).

These Manuals are available via a secure facility-wide password at any time, therefore ensuring easy and expedient access for all HCWs in the facility.

The range of Manuals encompass general Infection Prevention & Control Manuals for specific practice areas, including Surgical-Acute Medical, Day Surgery, NonSurgical (Mental Health and Rehab), Aged Care, Diagnostic Imaging, Office Based Practice, NonEmergency Patient Transport Services (NEPT), and specialty specific Manuals, ie. Flexible Endoscopes/Diagnostic Probes, and Sterilising Services.

HICMR Assessment and Reporting Program (HARP)

BBFEI Reports

HICMR manage and report Blood and Body Fluid Exposure Incidents (BBFEIs) for Level 3 (Consultancy) clients and provide Monthly BBFEI Reports. Annual BBFEI Reports are also available from 2011.

IPC Education Resources

There are a range of Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Education Resources available to ensure that relevant healthcare workers (HCWs), including both clinical and nonclinical, have a fundamental understanding of current IPC principles and appropriate precautions that prevent the transmission of infections in healthcare settings, according to current standards and guidelines.

HICMR are in the process of developing e-Learning Courses, and in addition other Courses can be sourced from various organisations, including State and National Health Departments.

Internal Audit & Practice Audit Tools

HICMR provide a range of Internal Audit (IA) and Practice Audit (PA) Tools for clients to self-assess compliance with state and national Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) requirements including ACSQHC National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHSS), and HICMR Policies and RA recommendations, to prepare for Accreditation / Surveys and between HICMR reviews.

RA Graphs

HICMR RA results can be benchmarked by facility and RA Tool, both internally and externally against other similar HICMR facilities.

The most recent score for the RA Tool for that year is represented. The last 3 years scores are displayed.

Risk Assessment Reports, Main Risks Summaries & Action Plans

HICMR Infection Prevention & Control Consultants conduct regular Risk Assessments (RAs) in all relevant practice/specialty areas using the HICMR web based RA Tools, to assess and measure compliance with relevant current standards, guidelines and Policies.

Sequential RAs, ie. those conducted for Level 3 (Consultancy) clients ongoing based on score achieved, are available as separate reports by RA Tool. Base/Periodical Risk Assessments, ie. those conducted annually / 2 yrly for Level 2 (Review) clients, may be a compiled Report. The last 3 years RA Reports are displayed.

RA Reports require confirmation of receipt within 30 days - please refer to the specific RA Report for confirmation process. Main Risks Summaries and Action Plans are also available for internal client use to assist with risk management, and documentation of follow-up action.

The RA Tools are regularly reviewed and revised as required according to changes in relevant current standards, guidelines and Policies. This may result in a change of total score for the particular RA.
